Several unique concepts have been incorporated into the project’s design. The ultimate goal is to create a strong sense of community for the 1,800 families who will eventually call Fairwood “home.” In order to achieve this goal, the residential areas of the project have been divided into several smaller neighborhood “enclaves.” Each of these enclaves will have its own theme related to the property’s history or to Prince George’s County history. Within each of these communities, the name of the community on the entrance sign as well as the streets within that community will be named in accordance with the theme that has been established for that particular community. Themes for the neighborhoods include subjects such as the racehorses that Governor Bowie owned and ran on his practice racetrack on the farm and historical churches of Prince George’s County.
